Raw water quality is becoming a predominant issue for both industrial use and drinking purposes. Ensuring Boiler feed water quality to requisite standards is vital under the constraints of raw water availability & quality levels. Conventionally chemical processes are used to treat water. State-of-art technology is to use porous membranes for filtration thus moving from chemical separation to physical separation with added advantages of less chemical handling & disposal and also quality output regardless of input variations in raw water quality. A ceramic membrane is a medium employed for physical separation of suspended particles in the micron range. This serves as a filter to reduce the suspended solids in the water to a range acceptable for the subsequent process of Reverse-Osmosis (to remove dissolved solids) and later the de-ionization process.
